The Back Story of ELEKTRA

Elektra Natchios, commonly known as Elektra, is a fictional character in the Marvel Comics universe. She was created by writer Frank Miller and made her first appearance in Daredevil #190 in 1983. Elektra has since become one of Marvel’s most recognizable and complex characters.

Elektra’s backstory revolves around her upbringing and her journey into becoming a highly skilled assassin. She was born in Greece to a wealthy family, with her father being a powerful ambassador. However, her life took a tragic turn when her mother was killed during a terrorist attack. This event deeply affected Elektra, and it marked the beginning of her transformation.

Elektra was sent to study at the prestigious Hand, a ninja training school, where she honed her martial arts skills and developed into a formidable fighter. During her time at the Hand, she became entangled in a romantic relationship with another student, Matthew Murdock, who would later become the superhero Daredevil.

After leaving the Hand, Elektra embarked on a dark path, embracing her skills as an assassin for hire. She became known as a deadly and mercenary assassin, taking contracts from various criminal organizations and high-profile clients. Elektra’s reputation as an assassin grew, and she became renowned for her proficiency in martial arts, particularly her expertise with the sai, a weapon of choice for her.

Elektra’s complex relationship with Daredevil is a significant aspect of her backstory. Despite their romantic connection, they often find themselves on opposing sides due to their different ideologies and methods of dealing with crime. Elektra is frequently torn between her love for Daredevil and her own dark impulses, which often lead her down a path of violence and vengeance.

The origin of Jack Russell, Werewolf by Night

The origin of Werewolf by Night in Marvel Comics can be traced back to “Marvel Spotlight” #2, published in February 1972. This issue introduced the character Jack Russell and established his background as the cursed werewolf.

In “Marvel Spotlight” #2, written by Roy Thomas with art by Mike Ploog, the story reveals that Jack Russell is the son of Gregor and Laura Russell. Gregor had been afflicted with a curse that transformed him into a werewolf during every full moon. The curse is passed down to Jack, making him the next in line to bear the curse of lycanthropy.

Following his initial appearance, Werewolf by Night received his own self-titled series, starting with “Werewolf by Night” #1 in September 1972. The series further delved into Jack Russell’s struggles with his werewolf nature, his attempts to control the beast within, and his encounters with supernatural threats.

Throughout the series, Jack’s adventures brought him into contact with various Marvel characters and villains, including Moon Knight, Dracula, and the Man-Wolf (John Jameson, the son of J. Jonah Jameson). The series ran for 43 issues, concluding in March 1977.

Werewolf by Night’s ongoing series and subsequent appearances in other Marvel titles cemented him as a unique and enduring character in the Marvel Universe, adding to the diverse roster of supernatural and horror-themed heroes and anti-heroes.
